Pornhub To Begin Accepting Verge Cryptocurrency As A Method Of Payment

The world’s biggest porn site, Pornhub, has announced that payments for premium content on its platform can now be made using a digital currency known as Verge. This is a cryptocurrency which is primarily focused on privacy. Verge was created four years ago and was initially known as DogeCoinDark.

According to a Pornhub spokesperson the decision to accept Verge was driven by users who demanded it as a method of payment. In a post that was posted on the suggestions page of the porn website earlier in the year there were 6,000 votes calling for the platform to accept Verge coins.

“Our acceptance of Verge is an affirmation of our dedication to innovation and privacy… [We] think Verge, with its focus on anonymity, is the best option – whether for privacy, convenience or both,” the vice president of Pornhub, Corey Price, said.

Focused on privacy

As an open-source virtual currency that is decentralized Verge provides anonymity when conducting transactions by obfuscating the Internet Protocol address as well as the users’ geo-location making them untraceable. Some of the technology that Verge uses includes I2P and Tor.

Though most of the revenues that Pornhub generates come from advertising, the porn site also has premium offerings for paying subscribers known as Pornhub Premium where users get high definition content and ad-free videos. Pornhub has never disclosed how much it generates from the paid service though it revealed that since the launch of the offering three years ago over two million subscribers had signed up. The porn site has also indicated that demand for the paid service is growing.

Stormy Daniels

Besides the official site of Pornhub affiliate sites of the porn platform including adult gaming site Nutaku and production company Brazzers will also accept the Verge cryptocurrency. Stormy Daniels (Stephanie Clifford) the porn star who is suing President Donald Trump in order to be freed from a non-disclosure agreement signed before the 2016 U.S. presidential election has been enlisted by Brazzers to publicize the new method of payment.

While this is the first time that the official website of Pornhub is accepting digital coins, subsidiaries of its parent firm, MindGeek, have already blazed the trail. Last month for instance, Playboy.TV, which is owned by MindGeek started accepting virtual currencies as a method of payment. At the time it was announced that the cryptocurrency wallet that Playboy.TV released would initially accept Ethereum and Bitcoin cryptocurrencies, currently the two largest digital coins by market capitalization.
